Especially for the automotive industry, lightweight construction is a key technology for the development of sustainable and resource-saving mobility. Automotive manufacturers are facing different priorities such as customer desires, competition and legislation at the same time.

Hybrid structures that combine the advantages of different materials (e.g. fibre reinforced plastics and metals) feature an especially high potential for weight reduction whilst increasing the functionality of components. The future efficient use of function-integrated hybrid structures in vehicle manufacturing requires major innovations in the area of vehicle development and production technology.

There is a particularly high demand for new methods and technologies for “affordable” lightweight constructions for high-volume production considering the increasing requirements in terms of variant diversity, safety and quality.

For these reasons, new methods and technologies for the development and production of function-oriented, hybrid and high-volume production-ready lightweight solutions in vehicle manufacturing as well as the exchange of experience among experts from industry and science are in the limelight of this conference.

Leightweight construction is one of the most important topics for future vehicle concepts in the automotive industry, especially regarding the aspects digitalization, electromobility and  energy and resource efficiency.

The LeichtbauCampus enables research and development of new and innovative lightweight construction concepts for the upcoming vehicle generations in a novel cooperation model. At the interface between science and industry, a unique infrastructure was created, that helps to transform ideas into innovations, which are reflected in sustainable progress in mobility..





Als interdisziplinäres Zentrum wurde das NFF 2007 mit Unterstützung der Niedersächsischen Landesregierung und der Volkswagen AG gegründet, um die Forschungsregion Braunschweig als Spitzenstandort in der Fahrzeugtechnik mit internationalem Rang zu etablieren. Es entstand damit eine effektive Kooperationsplattform für die gemeinsame Forschung von Industrie und Wissenschaft mit Standorten Wolfsburg im MobileLifeCampus und am Forschungsflughafen in Braunschweig.





ITS mobility ist das Kompetenzcluster für intelligente Mobilität in Norddeutschland. Das weit verzweigte, aktive Netzwerk bringt Experten aus Wirtschaft und Wissenschaft in Projekten und Veranstaltungen zu Mobilitätskonzepten zusammen, die den Verkehr oder das Fahrzeug sicherer und effizienter machen. Schwerpunktthemen sind zum Beispiel das automatisierte Fahren, die Car2X-Kommunikation, das europäische Notrufsystem eCall, die e-Mobilität, neue Werkstoffe oder auch Satellitennavigation. Mehr als 200 Mitglieder aus ganz Norddeutschland, darunter viele kleine und mittelständische Unternehmen, Forschungseinrichtungen, Verbände, Industrieunternehmen, Netzwerke und Experten, gehören dem gemeinnützigen Verein an.
