C-Roads Germany

Since 2016, ITS mobility is coordinator of C-Roads Germany, a pilot project for implementing, proving and harmonising cooperative Intelligent Transport Systems and Services (C-ITS) on European Roads. C-Roads Germany is one of 12 national pilots which trial cooperative services in a real traffic environment. The pilots contribute their implementation framework and experiences to the super-ordinated C-Roads Platform. Seven so called Day One Services which shall be supported by the basic system at the time of C-ITS market introduction, are trialled in the German Testbeds in Hessen (Rhine-Alpine-Corridor near Frankfurt) and Niedersachsen (motorway A2 near Braunschweig).

The high-level C-Roads Platform works on harmonised specifications, networks the national pilots and supports cross-border testing, in order to ensure the transnational interoperability of systems and services. Therefore, the C-Roads platform conducts specific working groups, on subjects such as organisational aspects, technical aspects (security, service harmonisation, infrastructure communication) as well as evaluation and assessment. Besides Germany, also Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Finland, France, Hungary, Italy, the Netherlands, Slovenia, United Kingdom and Sweden operate national pilots.

C-Roads in an important milestone for the near-termed realisation of connected, cooperative and automated driving.

C-Roads is co-funded by the European Union as Connected Europe Facility.
